COVID 19 - Is your bias killing you?

South Korea, China and Japan has been advocating a “mask all” policy, Trump has been advocating for more test and try hydroxy chloroquine for COVID patients, Cuba has been proponent of Interferon treatment, Germany has been advocating rapid testing and enforcing strict rules on not visiting Seniors.

A “Not Invented Here” mindset seems to be creeping across certain countries, politicians and medical and media professionals that maybe clouding our judgement when it is comes to policy making and reporting.

We are now waking up to “mask for all” policy that originated from Asia. But why did it take us so long?

Countries especially the US is suffering from shortage of medical supplies, but why not import from China while waiting for production to ramp up in US? Is your nationalism killing you?

Trump had advocated HCQ, whether one likes Trump or not should Democrats fight it because it is coming from Trump? The ideal thing to do would be to fast track HCQ trials.

What about Interferon treatment? Is the US media criminally negligent about reporting on this potential life saver because Cuba gets the credit?

Why is the Indian media hyper focused on Nizamuddin Basti hot spot in India while there are several instances of gross social distancing violation including Kalkaji Mandir right nextdoor in Delhi, Shridi Shrine in Maharashtra and a Sikh super spreader guru in Punjab? The intense religious divide in India which has escalated to hatred against Muslims hasn’t abated even in the face of death starting down at people irrespective of caste, creed, class or color!!!

Why  can’t we  let go off these biases even in the midst of a pandemic and try out very option available, adopt best practices across the world to stand up together to fight this scourge on humanity?
