Bhagwad Gita is respected and followed by millions of people across the world. The Gita has been around and inspiring people for a long, long time, WITHOUT the endorsement of any political party. One of the silly arguments that came up is that since Obama was gifted the Gita, it became the nation's "Official scripture". So does Obama get to decide what India’s scripture is? What a shame!!! Does the Gita need an Obama or for that matter a Sushma? In the aftermath of the controversy, Mamata Banerjee made a sobering statement that the Constitution is the “holy book” in a democracy. “All holy books are our pride,” Mamata Banerjee said. “The Quran, Puranas, Vedas, Vedanta, Bible, Tripitak, Zend-Avesta, Guru Granth Sahib, Gita — we respect all.” The series of gingoistic declarations coming out from the BJP camp in the last couple of weeks, starting with Astrology being superior to science and hate speeches by a minister are reasons for concern. Do we  really want to our kids to learn Astrology instead of physics and science? Should our kids switch to Sanskrit instead of English? Sushmaji - The Gita occupies a venerable place in human civilization and does not deserve to be dragged into petty politics. Please do not demean the Gita with your endorsement.
